Creditcall provides contactless donations technology for 2017 Poppy Appeal
The Royal British Legion has partnered with Lloyds Bank Cardnet to go contactless to adapt to changing consumer payment behaviour
Bristol, 2 November 2017 - Creditcall’s payment gateway and contactless EMV Level 2 Kernel were used to enable over 200 contactless terminals, provided by manufacturer Payter, during the 2017 Poppy Appeal, the Legion’s annual appeal which raises money to support Armed Forces personnel, veterans, and their families.
The Royal British Legion, in partnership with Lloyds Bank Cardnet, is piloting the scheme across the UK. During this year’s Poppy Appeal the British public can donate by using their contactless cards, smart devices, and wearables in addition to cash.
The contactless terminals, featuring the familiar poppy design, will have three pre-set donation levels of £2, £3, and £5 enabling donors to conveniently, quickly and securely make their donation.

Contactless card usage has rapidly increased since its introduction in 2007. In 2017, contactless spending in the UK is likely to double compared to 2016. Already £23.23bn have been spent in the first six months of 2017, compared to £25bn for the entire year of 2016.
In 2016, 45 million poppies were distributed, raising over £47.6 million for the Legion’s vital work. This year’s appeal launched on 26 October 2017.
