In 2001, CreditCall Communications was the first company in Europe to provide secure credit card payment on a standalone vending machine. Traditionally the value of goods able to be vended has been limited by the number of coins necessary to make the purchase - much more than a couple of pounds, and most people wouldn't have sufficient change in their pockets. Credit and debit card acceptance changes all that and opens up the opportunity of true unattended retail.
