the Card Activated Telephone (CAT phone)
The CAT phone was developed jointly by CreditCall and Ascom (now ATL Telecom) to satisfy the growing demand from hotels, hospitals, schools and universities wanting to provide users with an easy method of making voice and data calls on a pay-as-you-go basis with no post billing and no need for cash. It represents a much smarter alternative to conventional payphones.

user instruction cards
If you are using the CAT phone to provide a public payphone service, you are obliged to display details of how to make a call and what the call charges are. The links below allow download of standard user notices for the new style M-CAT as well as the pre-2005 Berkshire CAT phone. These can be printed and laminated and can be folded into self-supporting "tent" cards. There is space to add site specific information such as internal extension lists etc. The call charges shown are the standard CreditCall rates at April 2007.

prepaid phonecards
Prepaid phonecards are available directly from CreditCall and carry a magnetic stripe so that they can be used with the CAT phone in exactly the same way as a credit or debit card. Since they also have a special scratch-off panel on the back, revealing a unique PIN code and an 0800 access number, they can be used from almost any landline phone. This means that users buying cards from hotels, hospitals or schools can still use any remaining credit on the card after they leave the premises.
Phonecards can be supplied in £5 and £10 denominations, and at tariff rates to suit the requirements of the client organisation. A profit margin can be made on the sale of cards to users and this is determined by the tariff chosen.

the M-CAT phone
The new M-CAT phone is based on the latest model of the well-proven "Berkshire" telephone handset, and its sleek design incorporates a swipe card reader. This allows a user to make a call simply by swiping their credit/debit or prepaid card through the phone, then dialing their number. There are no lengthy account numbers to punch in which makes for a fast and reliable service.
Vital for hotel use, the phone incorporates a modem connection point allowing users to connect a laptop for email/internet access or even a fax. An optional steel wall case allows the phone to be securely wall or shelf mounted.
The CAT phone has been adopted as the brand-standard room phone by all the UK's budget hotel chains, and has been used in applications as diverse as on Heathrow Airport courtesy coaches to the Wimbledon press office.
There is no contract, no setup charges and no need for a credit card merchant account - a simple registration is all that needs to be completed before a CAT phone can be set live.
Since the site owner is not collecting revenue directly from the user, CreditCall pay a site owner's revenue share based on a fixed percentage of the value of calls made. At the standard CreditCall tariff, this is at least 20% of the net call revenue and is paid directly into a nominated bank account on a quarterly basis.
